When parents and other family members lose a child, they are left with an overwhelming sense of grief, often coupled with a feeling of helplessness.  Nothing can prepare them for such a traumatic and unexpected loss. Still, they are left to navigate the days ahead.

Our goal is to ease the suffering of those families by minimizing the financial burden that follows their loss, while also providing support and advice.

Our Story

Sloane’s Roses was founded by Jim and Brandie Kwartnik, the parents of Sloane Rose Kwartnik, who passed away under tragic circumstances on August 22, 2023.  Sloane, who was only seven years old at the time, was not only a beloved daughter to her parents and sister to her brothers, she was a friend to all that she met.  You can learn more about Sloane in our meet Sloane section below.

When Sloane died, Jim and Brandie were left in a state of shock and utter despair while they dealt with every parent’s worst nightmare.  But, during their lowest times, their entire community rallied around them, and it was comforting to get such an outpouring of support.  They felt a sense of community, friendship and generosity that reminded them about the way that Sloane lived her own life.  It was at that time that they came up with the idea to start Sloane’s Roses, a foundation dedicated to providing financial support and some comfort to families at the time when they need it most and when unexpected expenses pile up quickly.

Our Values

Sloane’s Roses recognizes that its most valuable assets are its reputation and commitment to its mission, both of which drive all organizational decisions along with the following core values:

  • We act with honesty and transparency, striving to meet the highest ethical standards.

  • We rely on our community for support and seek to attract more people to join our mission, while, at the same time, helping members within the same community and beyond.

  • We understand better than most the suffering of the families that benefit from our mission, and we are motivated by our desire to relieve some of that suffering.

Meet Sloane

Sloane spent seven beautiful years with us, filled with love and joy. She was a bright, kind, and fun-loving little girl with a contagious smile and sparkling blue eyes that made everyone around her feel good.

In the summers, Sloane would ride her Vespa around the neighborhood, gathering friends and spreading happiness. She was a positive influence at school, known for her kindness, intelligence, and maturity. Teachers often relied on her to help classmates having a tough day, a role she embraced with a smile.

Sloane loved sports, especially softball, gymnastics, and field hockey. When she wasn’t playing, she was cheering on her brothers, Jimmy and Luke, and making friends wherever she went. Her favorite part? Opening a tab at the snack bar to share treats with her friends.

Beautiful inside and out, Sloane was loving, caring, funny, and strong. She had a special bond with her family, showing them unconditional love every day. This love and her generous spirit continue to live on through Sloane’s Roses, a tribute to her lasting impact on all who knew her.
